Meet the Team

Hair Stylist

Miko. Stylist

Homegrown on the West Coast, Miko grew up in the free-spirited Kitsilano of the 80s, spending summers in Northern BC on her dad’s fishing boat. In 2010 she began her training at the Aveda Institute and has continued refining her skills through Aveda’s Advanced Academy, Vidal Sassoon and various specialized courses.

Miko is known for helping her clients achieve a style that suits their individual needs. She takes the time to make each guest in her chair feel comfortable, and considers everything from hair type and texture to maintenance and personal style during consultations.

Her colour work shines with seamless natural colour and lightening techniques, and she loves rooty blondes and bright beachy highlights. She’s very proficient with freehand cutting to release wave and curl, and texturizing for volume and movement. 90s-inspired grunge looks, classic shapes, short barbered fades and fringes of all kinds are some of her favorite cutting styles, and her attention to detail and refinement gives longevity to her cuts.

Miko loves to travel and find inspiration from people and cultures around the globe, but is most importantly inspired by her clients’ own unique personalities and visions.

JOCELYN. Stylist

Initially drawn to hairstyling by the lure of a job that didn’t involve a desk and computer screen, Jocelyn quickly realized her love of not only the artistry of doing hair, but helping people feel their best. She joined Trim in 2011, and loves to help people love their hair.

With training from the Vancouver Hairdressing Academy, along with advanced education from Vidal Sassoon and Aveda, Jocelyn has a comprehensive skill set. She believes listening is the most important part of her job, and works to give her clients hair that will work for them.

She loves all haircutting, and specializes in short hair, bobs of all kinds and scissor fades. She loves to play with colour, and often works with soft, complementary tones to achieve blended but dimensional hair. She is particularly skilled at creating “natural” blondes and redheads.

Away from the salon, Jocelyn is usually riding her beloved bike, writing, procrastinating about writing or watching a documentary. A sun-worshipper and travel junkie, she also spends a lot of time at the beach, planning her next adventure, or both at the same time.

Jocelyn’s hours:

Wednesday 10 – 8
Thursday 10 – 8

JILLIAN. Stylist

Beginning her career at Victoria’s Aveda Institute, Jillian has been beautifying hair on the West Coast and then in Alberta since 2006, and her passion as a stylist continues to grow.

As she fine-tuned her skills, she learned to zero in on the aspects of hair that really keep her inspired, and when she trained in dry cutting curls she never looked back. Curly hair has become her specialty and is where her creativity comes to life.

She also loves working with colour of all kinds, whether it’s soft, lived-in tones or a colour correction to create a dramatic change. Special occasion hair and men’s cuts are also a few favourites.

When she’s not doing hair, she loves to travel. Whether it’s a week in New York or a retreat in Bali, discovering new places recharges her batteries, while yoga, hiking, spin and exploring the city consume her time at home. She is very happy to be back on the West Coast where she can live the lifestyle she loves.

Trim Hair Salon - Maria

MARIA. Stylist

Maria is one of our senior stylists and has been doing hair for nearly 20 years. Having grown up in Richmond, she decided to start a hair apprenticeship on South Granville and continued her training at the Vidal Sassoon academy in London and Toronto as well as attending the Aveda Institute in Toronto. Maria has traveled to many places and is passionate about exploring and learning about other cultures. Most recently she moved back to Vancouver from 8 years living in New Zealand where she met her husband and had her son Wilco.

Maria believes a strong foundation is the key to longevity in her hair cuts. Her cutting style includes a lot of dry cutting but only after she has created the proper foundation. Maria is partial to long hair and seamless layers hence why she loves to help people grow out their hair! But if that’s not your plan, one of her favorites to cut is the clean lines of a bob. Maria loves to brighten up blondes and combining natural colour and highlights for a low maintenance grow out.

Maria’s hours:

Saturday  1:30 – 6
